“I graduated from
Penn State in 2003 with a BS in Mechanical
Engineering. I started my career in Composites
in 2003 when I began working for a company
called Fiberforge located in Glenwood Springs,
Colorado. This is a small research and
development company that is developing and
commercializing a breakthrough manufacturing
process for the production of lower-cost
advanced-composite parts. At the time of my
employment I was involved in the development of
an automated lay-up table (ALT) system along
with an associated forming process to produce
light weight composite parts using a combination
of thermoplastics and carbon fiber. My job
responsibilities ranged from working in the
machine shop to build parts for the ALT, running
the ALT to produce parts, testing composite
panels in the lab to identify flaws and
properties, mechanical design of the process and
statistical analysis. In 2005 I came to work
for PRI where I am the Composite Staff Engineer
and work with a group that is composed of
various representatives from the aerospace
industry to audit and accredited Suppliers who
manufacture composite aerospace parts.”
