George B. Maksin
Chairman - ASNT Pittsburgh Section 2009 - 2010

The October meeting was held at the National Weather Service station in Moon Township, Pa. There were sixteen attendees who were given an overview of the NWS responsibilities in predicting weather and interpreting the weather patterns, followed by a tour of the facility ending with the release of a weather balloon at 7:00 pm. The National Weather Service is operated by NOAA, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a federal funded agency. A lot of interesting facts came out of the tour, such as the information on current weather conditions you hear at the end of your flight are received directly by the pilot from the NWS. They not only supply the airlines, but also the marine and fishing industry, the local television stations, and issue any warnings of severe weather. ASNT Pittsburgh section would like to thank Richard Kane of the National Weather Service for an interesting and enlightening meeting.

Our next meeting scheduled for November 19th will be held as a joint meeting the Pittsburgh Section of the American Welding Society. A representative of Lincoln Electric Company will discuss the safety aspects of welding. The meeting will be held at 6:00 pm at the Spaghetti Warehouse in the Strip District.
